With this year’s Valentines, Mother’s day and Easter spread out nicely this year, there is definitely the opportunity for great sales during the early part of next year to help beat the recession. While Christmas has the volume and will always account for a large part of your turnover, done properly, Valentines and Easter can be a real gold mine.
Many shops feel Valentines and Easter has been flogged to death by the supermarkets, offering crazy deals on eggs. However, you should be looking to use this to your advantage. What these types of deals have done is flood the cheap end of the market so anyone receiving one of these eggs will know exactly how much, (or little), they are thought of by their loved one. Any shop selling quality confectionery has a great opportunity to offer that something different, an amazing and unique gift that really shows you care.
If you are only selling pre-pack products then consider stocking items that are aimed towards the adult market, you can get some really classy eggs that add the wow factor to any shop. If you are a shop selling loose chocolates then you can really go to town. It’s the perfect time to let your creativity go, most of the shops that really cash in at this time create some beautiful heart boxes and eggs and it’s much simpler than you think!
You can use your own chocolates, in a nice presentation box for Valentines or mixed with some nice foiled mini eggs to fill a chocolate half shell for Easter, all ribboned and presented correctly look stunning. You can start to take orders for these straight after Christmas, just make one up and put it in your window with a note. Take a small deposit and use the quiet time in January or just after Valentines to start making them up.
You can offer a really personalised service, only like dark chocolate, no coffee, caramel is her favourite, you can cater for it all. Something the supermarkets can’t even dream of!
