Aldi Wins Supermarket of the Year

The discounter beat off competition from Marks and Spencer, Waitrose and Lidl to scoop the prestigious award, which is measured on customer satisfaction, value for money, reliability and quality.

This is the second time that Aldi has won the Which? Supermarket of the Year award (previously won in 2009) and comes after a number of other award successes this year, including The Grocer’s ‘Discounter of The Year’ - a crown Aldi has achieved three times. Aldi has also won five Which? Best Buy awards in the last 12 months.

Not only is Aldi acquiring an impressive awards cabinet but they’re also enjoying one of the most successful trading years to date. Aldi continues to hold an all-time record market share. The discounter currently commands 2.8% of market share, representing 24.7% change on this time last year.*

Tony Baines, managing director of buying at Aldi Stores UK, says, “Being awarded Supermarket of the Year is a real reflection of Aldi’s success in 2012. Sales are going from strength to strength, and we’re welcoming new shoppers every day. We believe this is down to our commitment to always deliver high quality products at low prices.”

The Which? Awards were launched in 2007 to celebrate and reward the very best businesses in the UK, recognising individuals and companies such as Aldi for consistently ‘getting it right’.
