Award Boost For Organic Retailer

One of Bristol’s largest organic stores was named Best Independent Retailer at the Natural and Organic Awards 2010 earlier this month
The St Werburghs-based store fought off competition from some of the country’s premier organic food shops, including 100% Health in Paignton and Nature’s Corner in Newbury. “We’re delighted to win this national accolade in the face of strong opposition from all over the UK,” said Phil Haughton, managing director. “It shows it’s still possible, despite the recession, to excel in retailing organic food if you offer customers quality at the right price,” he commented.
The Better Food Company incorporates a café and foodhall and sells a wide selection of locally-produced groceries and home-grown organic vegetables. It also offers a popular-box scheme, delivering fresh produce to hundreds of homes in Bristol. “Our team has worked extremely hard to raise our already high standards, and this award is testament to both our staff and loyal customers,” he added.
Mr Haughton is the main producer of the business’s fresh vegetables, growing them on land near Chew Magna. He has been part of the region’s organic food and farming community for over 25 years.
The awards ceremony was part of the Natural & Organic Products Europe 2010 trade show, held in London’s Olympia from 11th to 12th April.
