Deadline Approaching For British Food Awards

Launched for the first time last year, the awards have been set up to provide a platform for the skilled, passionate – and often unsung – artisans behind the nation’s finest speciality food and drink.

Winners of the 2014 awards include top speciality retailers such as Ludlow Food Centre, Edwards of Conwy and Maynard’s Farm.

The judging panel is made up of top food industry names, including Nathan Outlaw, Rosemary Shrager, Jimmy Doherty and Valentine Warner, and the categories are as follows:

BOTTLED IPA
CIDER
SMOKED FISH
CHARCUTERIE
SAVOURY CONDIMENT/PRESERVE
CHEESE
SWEET PRESERVE
SWEET BAKE
BREAD
COOKING OIL
DAIRY
FRUIT-BASED NON-ALCOHOLIC DRINK
BACON
SAVOURY PIE (HOT)

Entries will initially be shortlisted based on provenance and innovation, then the top ten products in each category will be called in to be judged for taste, quality and appearance.

Natasha Lovell-Smith, editor of Great British Food said, “Our awards are all about boosting small local producers, who may be well known in their regions but have yet to get the national recognition we think they deserve.

“We were blown away by the quality of entries in 2014, and this year is looking to be even bigger and better. We’ve got some of the biggest names in British food on our panel this year, and I can’t wait to see what they think of our finalists!”

The awards are free to enter at greatbritishfoodmagazine.com/producerawards and the closing date is June 7th.
