  • A Derbyshire food business is soon to open a maze on five acres of its land to maximise passing tourist trade during the summer months

Bluebells Café and Farm Shop in Spondon has been planting and preparing the ‘Maize Megamaze’ for several months in anticipation of the busy summer period. The attraction has been developed with a circus theme and incorporates the company’s logo within the design.

“We have invested in the Maize Megamaze this summer to enhance our food business even further. It complements what we do because it utilises crops from our own farm and focuses on natural elements that we have grown ourselves,” says Rosemary Brown, co-owner. All the maize used to build the attraction will be harvested for use as cattle fodder when the summer season ends.

“We’re expecting to increase visitor traffic from Derbyshire and further afield, and look forward to introducing new visitors to all the delicious homemade, local and regional food we sell at Bluebells,” she added.

The business incorporates a farm shop, café, tea room and a working dairy farm. It also produces its own range of homemade, premium ice cream. Other planned summer activities include space hopper racing, outdoor games, a play area and an animal patch. Bluebells is also launching several limited-edition summer ice cream flavours, such as Strawberry and Proseccio.

“We’re really looking forward to hosting a fun-filled summer at the farm and hope we’ve catered for all of our customers’ needs,” concluded Mrs Brown.

The maze will be open for business from 14th July to 5th September.
