  • London retailer Harrods has teamed up with the UK’s largest shooting organisation, the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC), to encourage consumers to eat game meat

Over 10,000 Harrods-branded game recipe leaflets have been printed and will be given out in the Knightsbridge store’s food hall as part of BASC’s National Taste of Game Fortnight, which will run from 6th to 20th November. The event forms part of the organisation’s continuing Game’s On promotion campaign, which has already been utilised by a number of delis and farm shops.

“We are absolutely delighted to have teamed up with Harrods and hope that this partnership will encourage more people to enjoy eating game,” says Simon Hamlyn, BASC’s director of operations.

A range of regional and national events and competitions have been organised as part of the food fortnight, including a major game tasting event at Borough Market in London from 11th to 13th November. During the event customers will be able to sample a variety of traditional and more unusual game recipes, prepared by some of the world’s top chefs, including restaurateur and broadcaster Mike Robinson.

This year’s campaign has an exotic, international twist, with Indian restaurants being particularly encouraged to put game on their menus. “Taste of Game, India will provide a fabulous opportunity for us to get the general public into Indian restaurants to try the great taste of wild game,” adds Mr Hamlyn. The BASC will be working closely with the national and regional press, TV and local radio during the fortnight to feature local businesses promoting and selling game meat.
