London event set to showcase the finest Italian wines

The event, which takes place on 8th February 2018 at the Royal Horticultural Halls in Westminster, is set to welcome UK trade and press to taste the finest wines featured in Vini d’Italia 2018 - the authoritative publication on the world of Italian worlds.

Now available in English, German, Chinese and Japanese, the 31st edition of the guide includes more than 400 wines awarded with the prestigious Tre Bicchieri. The selection is the result of a careful tasting of over 40,000 labels.

As in the previous editions, the London event will also feature two exclusive masterclasses aimed at gaining a valuable insight on the wines present at the event. This year there will be a dedicated mention of the 2018 Special Awards, such as Red of the Year, White of the Year and Sparkling of the Year. The awards reflect Gambero Rosso’s values when it comes to assessing the Italian wine industry, and they are the result of the selection carried out by more than 60 talented tasters.

For the first time, the London event will showcase a special selection of the best value-for-money wines awarded in the Berebene guide. The so-called “smart wines” can be purchased in Italy for less than €13 without compromising the quality. Gambero Rosso will also award the best Italian restaurants in London featured in the new digital guide Top Italian Restaurants, which includes fine dining restaurants, trattorie, pizzerias and wine bars.

The Gambero Rosso’s event will offer a unique opportunity to taste the wide variety of Italian flavours.

The North American Tre Bicchieri week will start after the London event, heading to Chicago (28th February), New York (2nd March), Los Angeles (6th March) San Francisco (8th March). Later in March, the Tre Bicchieri Tour will once again return to Dusseldorf on the 17th, while the final stops will be Vancouver and Toronto (June 2018).

The UK market is showing a growing trend of consumption and sale of Italian wines: during the first eight months of 2017 trade data shows that the value of imported Italian wines reached €494 million, compared to €456 million in the first seven months of 2016. UK represents the second market in Europe for Italian wine and the third one on a global scale with a value of €763 million in 2016. Italian wine owns the second biggest market share in the UK.
