Regional Chinese products will be showcased, and among the 90 other countries and regions exhibiting at SIAL China this year, will be the UK and Ireland, France, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Morocco, Tunisia, Latvia, South Africa, Australia, Korea, Thailand, Brazil, Canada, together with this year’s Guest Country of Honor, the USA, which hosts its own pavilion.
The show provides an opportunity for buyers to identify trends and explore the diverse and always-changing Chinese food market. A record number of meat producers will exhibit at this year’s show and visitors will be able to inspect products such as Wagyu beef, Australian mutton and Chinese pork and poultry. Another well-represented sector is gourmet seafood. Dairy is growing fast in China, with 2014 seeing an increase in dairy imports of 50.7%. Chinese and Asian dairy buyers will be in attendance.
Bjoern Kempe, exhibition director said, “Within a few years, SIAL CHINA shot up to the No 1 annual food and beverage exhibition in Asia. Weak food production and low food safety standards in China have led to a strong increase in food imports. The central government has supported this trend with free trade agreements, lowering taxes and import duties, as well as lowering the obstacles for import, such as shipping regulations, CIQ etc.
“In addition, China is the largest food market in terms of consumption and Shanghai is now an established metropolitan city, with world-leading chefs having their restaurants here.”
The events schedule features the SIAL Retail and Hospitality Forum, culinary demonstrations La Cuisine by SIAL, SIAL Innovation, where market trends are identified, and World Tour by SIAL, which enables understanding and appreciation of the food market by geographical area.
