Black Garlic is on all the chefs' radars this Christmas, with MasterChef contestants and home cooks all enjoying the depth of flavour that this innovative product can bring to an array of dishes

Hawkshead Relish have developed a Black Garlic Ketchup, the first of its kind and already it has won a Great Taste Award, Great British Food magazine’s Condiment of the Year and was a finalist in The Grocer’s New Product of the Year Awards, against Hellmann’s and Heinz no less!

The Hawkshead Relish Company based in the English Lake District are renowned for innovation and top quality produce, winners of over 50 Great Taste Awards their range is all free from nuts, gluten and artificial flavourings and additives, the wide range of over 100 products all are handmade using traditional open pans in the idyllic setting of a 16th century Lake District Barn at the edge of Esthwaite Water.

The ketchup is made using the finest black garlic from Spain, where whole bulbs are cooked slowly for up to 50 days in a low heat and with a high humidity, during this process the garlic becomes sweet, sticky and black and has a rich, deep savoury umami flavour. The garlic is then mixed together with Onions, Tomatoes, Balsamic Vinegar, herbs and spices creating a sauce that has so many uses, from serving with Sausages, Chicken, Steak, Gammon and Bacon, to Eggs and Fish it adds a depth of flavour to enrich sauces and is the perfect table sauce.
