Discover the Origin

Free Masterclasses

The pioneering Discover the Origin campaign returns for a further three years to promote Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) food and drink. 2012 sees the continuing interactive programme of free Masterclasses tailored to the needs of delicatessen; restaurant, hotel and catering staff, as well as importers, buyers, distributors and food consultants.

British consumers continue to revel in becoming more gastronomically aware; with people wanting to know about the providence of food and drink, essential food combinations and more importantly ‘what and how’ makes certain products unique. It is ever more important for anyone working within the food industry to have the knowledge to impart the traditions & history behind the production process of PDO products, as well as the specific nuances which makes these products so distinctive and exceptional.

As a restaurant chef, knowing and understanding ingredients is fundamental for the creation of a house special or taking traditional dishes and adding a house twist. An essential part of the cooking process goes far beyond matching flavours; there is a need to understand the traditions behind the produce, which become part of the visual sensual experience. And instrumental to Maître d’s and waiting staff when advising and guiding customers’ menu choose, are the nuances which make and complement the flavours. Even more elemental is the ability to pair wines which enhance the flavours of a dish. Discover the Origin Masterclasses can help you acquire the knowledge and expertise required to give your customers an enhanced dining experience.
