Steve Croot, of Croots Farm Shop & Kitchen in Duffield, Derbyshire reviews his first foray into Facebook
About three months ago we took the plunge and started a Facebook page for Croots.

It was really easy to set up and now that we've got 110 followers (and counting!) it's proving to be a very useful marketing tool.

It's an incredibly fast way of letting people know about our news, latest offers and other snippets of information.

We’re seeing a gradual increase in the number of fans who have signed up, so I’d definitely recommend it both as a way of keeping in touch with customers and for helping to raise the profile amongst some of your newer ones.

We were delighted to see that Croots Farm Shop had made it into The Independent’s Top 50 Best Food Shops, published on 21st November.

“Croots is more than a shop, it’s a destination. It’s the perfect place to buy everything you need for a special dinner and literally cook from plot to plate,” said one of the judges.

The whole team us tickled pink with the honour!

Sausage Week triumphs

Our new sausages, dreamed up in our design-a-sausage competition went down a treat during National Sausage Week (2nd - 8th November)

Buck in the Park and Ketchup Sausage sold out and they’re now firm favourites on our butchery counter.

The Ketchup Sausage, designed by a four-year-old, is particularly popular with parents. We’re on quite a roll now and have devised two more new sausages ourselves: Lamb and Madras, and Onion Marmalade.

Another highlight, worth mentioning as a little aside is my participation in a 'Magical Banger' competition with Paul Daniels during Sausage Week.

I cooked up our award-winning Black Pudding sausage during the regional heat of the contest.

Sadly I didn’t win, but it was good fun and Paul seemed to like it!

There is little doubt that Social Media Networking is catching the imagination of many businesses, and not just the SME’s… the BIG boys are using it too.. BUT, like anything you need to do it well, which is why we use the services of a professional SMN Company who ensure that we always project a professional image whilst at the same time avoid the temptation to bombard the web with sales messages / promotions.. SMN should be used as a conversational tool to get people interested in what you have to say, and about your Industry.. Bottom Line, SMN is great if used correctly… Enjoy!!
