  • Staff at Fudge Kitchen step up to keep mail orders going after its seven bricks-and-mortar shops temporarily close
“Our business is like a family”

Employees at retailer and artisan producer Fudge Kitchen have risen to the occasion “despite challenging circumstances” to continue supplying online orders for as long as possible. The business made the decision to temporarily close its seven shops earlier this week, with the manufacturing site in Kent to follow shortly, as government measures to reduce the spread of coronavirus increased.

In order to continue fulfilling customer orders the business is still running its mail-order service, with fudge makers from the Bath location stepping in to run the operation from the Canterbury shop.

MD Sian Holt said, “Ahead of government guidelines, we took the decision to temporarily close our seven shops across the UK in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19, shortly to be followed by our manufacturing site in Kent, ensuring the safety of our staff and customers remains at the heart of what we do. This decision wasn’t made lightly; our staff have been amazing at this time of uncertainty, pulling together to deliver the same great award-winning service that has come to be expected from all members of the Fudge Kitchen family, despite challenging circumstances.

“For now our mail-order service remains in operation from our now-closed Canterbury shop, with a number of changes being made in line with government advice, to help protect our fulfilment staff as far as we are able. We’re lucky that our business is like a family in more ways than one, and from this week our mail-order team will comprise of an entire household of expert Fudge Makers who’ve temporarily relocated to ensure the Fudge Kitchen flame won’t die out; handmaking, packaging, and shipping our orders, so long as government and expert guidelines suggest it is safe to do so. It may mean deliveries take a little longer to reach their destination than normal, but at this time, it remains our commitment to provide our loyal customers with what we strive to be, the best fudge in the world!”
