Chapman’s, based on Baldock High Street, is a family-owned traditional butchers, which until now was located Church Street for 75 years.

David Chapman, one of the family members that runs the butchers, said, “We feel most honoured that Clarissa was able to visit us in Baldock and open our new shop. She is such a colourful character and supporter of rural Britain with a real passion for field sports, traditional country pursuits and of course her inspirational cooking and recipe books. We were delighted that such a large number of our customers were able to join us today and have this special opportunity to meet such a lively celebrity.

“I’d also like to thank our customers whose loyalty and encouragement has enabled us to expand and open the new shop despite these economic times. We are really looking forward to their continued valued custom,” he added.

Clarissa Dickson Wright commented, “It is a great pleasure to be opening this marvellous butchers. We must cherish these wonderful real shops that sell real food. These local independent shops that bring life and vitality to our high streets need all our support. I know other women like to look at clothes and diamonds but I prefer to look at a lovely bit of beef – the bovine variety of course.”
