  • As part of her high street overhaul, Mary Portas will begin talking to Tesco UK's Chief Executive, Richard Brasher this week

After the TV star and retail guru was assigned by David Cameron to help resolve the problem of Britain’s high street shops closing, she is now facing one of the biggest retail giants head-on.

“There is no point in me coming [to the review] with a sledge hammer,” she told the Financial Times.

“I want to hear and listen to their plans and what they will be happening. These guys have been in the retail business for many years and are terribly sophisticated about it.”

Tesco said: “We are looking forward to sharing our views and experience of the high street.”
