  • Belvoir Ridge, a creamery based in Leicestershire, has experienced a surge of popularity for its Colwick cheese
Colwick Cheese Popularity Boom

The cheese was invented in the area in the seventeenth century, but had been out of production until Alan and Jane Hewson recreated and relaunched it at the Melton Mowbray Artisan Cheese Fair in May 2013,  using the milk from the creamery’s 50 Red Poll cows.

Jane Hewson said, “When Jamie Oliver sits in your kitchen and tells you he’s going to go round Nottingham selling [your product] for you something rather special happens! Our small delivery round became larger, then following Channel 4’s programme Jamie & Jimmy’s Friday Food Feast our website has had 42,000 hits – a lot from people wanting to know how to buy some.

“We had thought originally that we would be able to arrange delivery ourselves, but the scale of public support and interest has been amazing. People have been touched by our story. They are looking for something different and must trust Jamie Oliver!”
