  • A Surrey farm shop raised over £400 for Breast Cancer Campaign last month

Staff at Garsons Garden Centre and Farm Shop in Esher took part in the national ‘wear it pink day’ as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The team dressed in pink for the day, selling homemade cakes and other specialities - all donated by local producers.

One employee challenged customers to guess how many pink items she was wearing. The winner received a bottle of pink Champagne.

“While it’s a great cause, holding charity events is also a great way of attracting customers,” said Nigel Chandler, manager.

“The event was a great success. People really appreciate the fact we were supporting an issue that affects almost everyone,” he said.

The day marks the first charity event organised by the shop.

“Being a small retailer, we have a great relationship with the local community, so events like this enhance it even further,” he added.

“We received so much support from customers that we’ll definitely do it on a bigger scale next time,” said Mr Chandler.

Money raised will help the diagnosis and treatment of cancer across the country.
