  • A Yorkshire Dales food hall will be offering customers the chance to join a unique cooking club as part of its British Food Fortnight 2010 celebrations

County Harvest in Ingleton will be launching the new venture – which gives club members discounts on various seasonal products each month – on 2nd October. The first theme will be ‘a grand day out’ – inspired by the popular Wallace & Gromit animation. Local producer the Wensleydale Creamery’s Jervaulx Blue and Wensleydale with Cranberries are to be the first ‘ingredients of the month’. Members will be invited to special in-store tastings and recipe workshops based around the products.

“We are so excited about the club,” says marketing manager Gillian Cowburn. “This is something completely different for Country Harvest but when we talked to customers about the idea of a Cooks Club they all jumped at the idea. We’re all about celebrating great British food, so it seemed appropriate to coincide the launch with food fortnight,” she adds.

To join the scheme, members pay a one-off £15 joining fee and in return receive a goodie bag worth nearly £50, including a specially-designed County Harvest apron, a copy of Jenny Linford’s Great British Cheeses book, a copy of Debbie Brown’s Wallace & Gromit’s Cracking Celebration Cakes cookery book, a jute bag and a free family visitor pass to the Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes.

The store already has plans in place for a Christmas event in November, which will involve tastings, festive displays and recipe suggestions. “We’re also trying to get some local chefs to come in and give talks and cooking demonstrations. Hopefully this will raise our profile in the local community and encourage people from even further afield to come out of their way to visit us,” adds Sam Dixon, food hall assistant.
