Fine Food Chain Loses Three Stores

  • One of the largest speciality food chains in Scotland is shutting three of its stores, after Waitrose has started to expand in the country

Peckham’s has lost its stores in Lenzie, Newton Mearns and Raeburn Place, and now all three are up for sale.

The closure has been attributed to supermarket chain, Waitrose opening its largest store in Scotland in May this year.

In terms of the history of Peckham’s, Tony Johnston, managing director of Peckham’s Scotland, raised money for his first deli by selling hamburgers from a stand.

He recently told The Herald Scotland, “Peckham’s Scotland would continue and concentrate on its remaining 11 bigger stores where they can host restaurants alongside grocery sales.”

“There had been no redundancies as all staff had been redeployed within the group”, he said.
