  • Following two successful issues, the Autumn edition of Great British Food magazine will be on-sale on 29th August and this time it's taking British food to a larger audience

Great British Food magazine is all about celebrating, enjoying, buying and cooking British food and drink and what better time to do that than now when the nation is being spoon fed the benefits of shopping locally and British Food Fortnight is set to make it’s annual push to drum up some national pride in consumers?

With a strong mix of informative features, buying ideas, producer profiles and a wealth of inspiring and mouthwatering recipes, Great British Food magazine aims to encourage people to go back to British and support their local growers and makers.

At a time when the supermarkets are making greater inroads into local sourcing, and more and more consumers are realising the savings that can be made by purchasing food grown and produced in their region, Tesco is the perfect place to encourage more people to understand the importance of buying British. “Great British Food aims to support independent retailers and small producers in its editorial, but to do that effectively we need to be able to reach a much wider readership and selling it through Tesco allows us to do just that,” explains Nicola Mallett.

Priced at just £3.99, Great British Food boast over 125 pages of editorial and at least 100 recipes, tips and ideas. The autumn edition focuses on some of the fantastic seasonal food and drink available during September and October. Interesting articles on game, Kentish cobnuts and Cornish Sardines provide both information and recipe ideas, while recipe features offer cooking inspiration for using up seasonal favourites such as blackberries, squash, scallops and wild mushrooms.

The magazine also brings together some famous names. For starters, Galton Blackiston serves up Wild Mushrooms and Norfolk Asparagus with Blue Cheese Dressing, while Anthony Demetre reveals his secret Shepherd’s Pie recipe for main course. If desserts are more your thing, why not try out John Burton Race’s Plum Clafoutis, or Angela Hartnett’s Welsh Cakes with Apricots and Welsh Cake Ice Cream? Also look out for recipes from Sat Bains, Paul Rankin and Martin Wishart. Also find out more about some of the country’s best cider producers and uncover some of our food heroes making famous specialities such as Cornish pasties, pork pies and sausages.

“There are so many wonderful small producers throughout the British isles that have yet to be discovered. The aim of Great British Food is to give them a real chance to shine to a wide audience,” explains Nicola Mallett. “With recent programmes such as Jimmy’s Doherty’s Farming Heroes uncovering some of the most exciting farming stories, it is clear that the public want to know where their food comes from and Great British Food will only add to that knowledge.”

Great British Food is now available to buy from 29th August 2008 from Tesco and WHSmith stores nationwide. Also look out for the winter issue (available 7th November) and the spring edition (22nd January). For more information about the magazine, or to buy it online visit www.greatbritishfoodmagazine.com
