  • Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minster attracted considerable media attention to the launch of the country's UK food campaign in London last week

‘Malaysia Kitchen’ marks the beginning of a one year marketing strategy designed to celebrate Malaysian cuisine in the UK.

Lead by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), it started with a celebrity-inspired bang.

The Hon. Tan Sri Muhyiddin Hj. Mohd Yassin, announced the plans at top restaurant, Jom Makan to some of the UK’s most well-known chefs including Gordon Ramsay, Jason Atherton and Angela Hartnett.

All were encouraged to sample what was dubbed ‘some of the best of Malaysian food in London’, ranging from rendang and satay to nasi lemak and Tarik tea.

Malaysia Kitchen’s objective is to champion the 40+ Malaysian restaurants already established in the capital with a ‘targeted communication strategy’.

The ambition is to re-create an ‘authentic night hawker market’ in the middle of central London.

Malaysia will also be the main sponsor at Taste of London this June.

The launch took place in Jom Makan on the 11th January at the Westfield Shopping Centre, London.
