  • Entries for the prestigious Taste of the West Awards 2008 are now open, with the region’s finest food and drink producers, retailers, restaurateurs, guest houses and pubs set to compete for the coveted awards.

Now in their 15th year, the Taste of the West Awards, once again supported by lead sponsor, Musgrave, are designed to encourage and highlight excellence throughout the South West’s food and drink industry.

Testament to the success of the Awards, last year’s scheme drew a record number of entries, over 1500 from across the region, with 2008 expected to exceed this number.

This year will also see the introduction of three NEW Awards, designed to recognise outstanding contributions made by individuals and schools in the region, these include Local Food Champion, South West Producer of the Year and South West Local Food in Schools Award.

John Sheaves, chief executive of Taste of the West, said, “The success of the region’s premier food and drink awards scheme is something the region should be extremely proud of. We know winning an award provides real marketing benefits for our exceptional producers and hospitality businesses and this year’s new categories will go further, by acknowledging the passions of individuals and schools in promoting and embracing the superb produce we have here on our doorstep.”
