  • Retailers across the country are encouraged to put themselves forward for two new farm shop awards, due to be given out at this year's NSA Sheep 2010 show

The Best Farm Shop and Best English Farm Shop awards have been designed by the National Sheep Association (NSA) and EBLEX to test the skills of retailers selling fresh lamb products. Open to all UK farm shops, each entrant will have one hour in front of a live audience to prepare and display a variety of cuts from a whole dressed lamb carcase.

They will also be required to prepare and cook lamb burgers. The judges will be looking for entrants demonstrating the best set of butchery skills, together with innovation and appealing presentation.

“We are pleased to stage these two new awards to provide real reward and recognition for farm shop owners and their staff, who offer their customers quality lamb which is presented both traditionally and in the form of new and innovative cuts,” says Helen Davies, NSA Sheep 2010 organiser. “In addition, watching the butchers at work will provide an interesting and genuine attraction for visitors,” she adds. Event highlights include sheep shearing and lamb selection competitions and the well-established Young Shepherd of the Year Award.

The show will be held at the Three Counties Show Ground, Malvern on Tuesday, 3rd August.
