  • Scottish Food Fortnight has been re-launched as Scottish Food & Drink Fortnight for this year's celebrations, in a bid to show the value and prominence of its drinks sector

“We decided to rebrand the event to reflect the importance of the drinks industry to Scotland’s economy. It’s designed to celebrate the quality and diversity of our world-class industry in its entirety - from small, up-and-coming producers, to globally renowned businesses,” says Fiona Richmond, project manager, Scotland Food & Drink.

The revenue attributed to the sector warrants this across-the-board recognition: the food and drink industry in Scotland generates annual sales of £7.57bn, more than £3bn of which is represented by the drinks sector.

“The value cannot be underestimated and its diverse products range from world-class spirits, bottled water and soft drinks to beer, lager and traditional ales,” adds Ms Richmond.

Organisers hope that the re-brand will cement the event as a popular fixture in the industry’s calendar, encouraging more celebrity chefs, foodies and culinary enthusiasts to get involved. Participating producers will look to boost sales, by showcasing their diverse and locally sourced produce.

The event will take place from 5th to 20th September 2009.
