Royal Award for Village Store Owner

Christine Hope, of Hope’s of Longtown, in Herefordshire, received the award for her work promoting local food and drink and agricultural issues since 2001 from her village store.

She was presented the accolade by the Lord Lieutenant in a ceremony at the King George V fields.

Ms Hope said, “This has all come out of the blue so I’m a bit shocked, but delighted to be receiving an award, especially as I’m one of just 32 in the country. That these are nominated by the public and local organisations is really nice and makes it extra special for me.”

The awards commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and are voted for by the local community. They recognise a variety of sectors and are given to people of all ages.
