Staffordshire Cheesemaker Ceases Production

Bertelin Farmhouse Cheese Co Ltd, in Stafford, started in 2008 and was recently crowned Food Producer of the Year in the 2012 Taste of Staffordshire Awards.

But the owners feel they cannot continue to run the business with the same commitment as when they started.

Lucy Heath, who runs Bertelin Farmhouse Cheeses with her husband John, said, “Bertelin now needs investment to move it on to the next stage. John and myself are both now nearing retirement age, our son Tom is fully occupied running the large dairy enterprise on the same site, and we wish to devote more time to other interests.

“After much discussion and thought, we have made the decision to cease production at Bertelin, having tried to sell it as a going concern, as John and I feel we cannot continue with the commitment needed to run an artisan cheesemaking business.”
