  • A series of food attractions, organised by the Royal Thai Embassy, are due to take over some of London's most iconic landmarks this summer

The various events aim to promote Thai food, culture, trade and tourism in the UK, and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Thai Royal Family’s state visit to London in 1960.

Thailand@Trafalger Square 2010 will offer food from the city’s finest Thai restaurants, including Mango Tree and Thai Square, while various retailers will be selling fresh fruit, vegetables, herbs and spices. There will also be traditional Thai puppet shows, dancing and boxing demonstrations at the June event.

Harrods is similarly celebrating the Asian country by hosting a number of food events throughout May. The food hall is currently showcasing luxury and difficult-to-find Thai cooking ingredients, including holy basil, koi choi flowers and banana leaves. Restaurants Patara and Blue Elephant have also joined the celebrations, giving expert advice to customers and creating dishes combining traditional and contemporary Thai cooking-styles. Special demonstrations and activities will also be available all month, ranging from fruit carving to sugar work creation.

Thailand@Trafalger Square 2010 is due to be held at Trafalger Square on 5th June.
