  • The region's search for the best retailers, producers, restaurants and pubs has experienced an 89% increase on last year's interest, to reach a record 10,000

“With such a dramatic rise in votes, the people of Kent have demonstrated that outstanding local food and drink quality is what really counts when they’re shopping or dining out,” said Julie Monkman, organiser.

Consumers have nominated over 680 businesses across twelve categories, three of which will be shortlisted for the title of Kent Local Food Retailer of the Year.

Macknade Fine Foods in Faversham is among them.

“It’s a wonderful surprise to be up for the award. We didn’t encourage customers to nominate us, so it’s great that so many voted off their own backs,” said Stefano Cuomo, owner.

“Kent has an incredibly rich food heritage. We source the majority of our stock from producers just a few minutes down the road, which people really seem to appreciate,” he added.

Other awards include Food Product of the Year, Butcher/Meat Producer of the Year and Farmers’ Market of the Year.

The winners will be revealed at a dinner and awards ceremony in Leeds Castle on 26th February.
