“We wanted to wait a few weeks to get ourselves settled into the new shop, but we’re now more than ready to show it off,” says Elaine Timmis, whose family owns the business. “The reaction from local people has been absolutely fantastic, and that was only after a few weeks of trading. Hopefully the official opening will encourage even more customers to see what we have to offer.”
Marcus Bean, star of Channel 4 series Iron Chef UK and chef patron at The New Inn in Baschurch, will be hosting a cooking demonstration using meat reared on the farm. “The meat, eggs and vegetables are not just local but they are excellent. The Timmis family are farmers who really understand their produce,” he says.
Mr Bean has supported the shop since it first opened in 2006, and regularly serves its beef, pork, lamb, sausages and bacon in his restaurant. “The topside of Moor Farm Hereford Beef used for our Sunday Roasts hardly needs cooking! I am pleased to see the new shop opening and hope that more people will now enjoy the fantastic meat and other produce, as our customers do at my restaurant,” he adds.
Visitors to the event can also sample a hog roast made using Moor Farm’s own Gloucester Old Spot pigs and see new born lambs being released into the fields.
