Design-a-Sausage Competition

Our in-house butchers are preparing for Sausage Week (2nd - 8th November). They’ll be unveiling the sausages dreamed up by our two customers who won the Design-a-Sausage Competition.

The winning entries were Buck in the Park, a venison sausage marinated in stout with garlic and redcurrants, and Ketchup Sausage, a pork-based banger flavoured with red sauce and designed by a local four-year-old…

The competition ran during British Food Fortnight, so it hasn’t taken too long to perfect the recipes, but no doubt the proof of the pudding will be in the eating!

I’ll let you know how they go down with our customers!

Sales are brewing

We’ve added to our range of Croots beers following the introduction of two of our own branded ales, earlier this year.

We started selling Pig in a Bottle and Croots Shire Ale, after teaming up with local brewers, Nutbrook Brewery.

In less than five months we’d sold almost 1,000 bottles, so now we’ve added to the farmyard collection by producing Ewe Drink and Cow Juice.

We’ve already seen a strong interest from customers.

Like-minded customers

The ploughing match season was in full swing this month. I took the chance to nip along to Brailsford Ploughing Match (held not far from Croots Farm Shop) and had a stall to promote the shop.

This kind of event is a traditional part of country life.  I find the people who attend are very receptive to the ethos behind Croots: supporting local producers, selling locally reared meat, as well as offering customers a wide range from further afield.
