  • Steve Croot, of Croots Farm Shop & Kitchen, gets a little help from premiership footballer Rory Delap to kick off a new promotion and charity fund-raising effort to coincide with the FIFA World Cup

We couldn’t let a big event like the FIFA World Cup go by without creating some special sausages to mark the occasion, so our butchers have conjured up a number of aptly-named bangers, like the WAG sausage and the Bangerooney.

Ten percent from the sale of our World Cup range will go to the local children’s charity Treats that we’re supporting this year, and we were delighted that premiership footballer Rory Delap agreed to launch the new products.

Stoke City midfielder Rory and his family are regular customers at Croots, so he was happy to help us promote the sausages, which we hope will raise a tidy sum for charity.

This month we’ve introduced a range of frozen fish, including red snapper fillets, sea bass, lemon sole, king scallops, tuna and cod loin, haddock and hake fillets, Devon dressed crab and langoustines. It seems to have gone down well with customers. Being in the heart of Derbyshire, we’re quite a distance from the coast, but that doesn’t mean we can’t offer an exciting range of fish.

We were out and about on the road again during May, taking part in the Derbyshire Food and Drink Fair at Kedleston Hall, near Derby.

The weather was fantastic and it proved to be very successful for us, not just because of the amount we sold, but also because it was a great way of promoting the shop to food lovers from the area.

Hopefully some of them may become regular customers.
