  • The co-owner of the Hawkshead Relish Company, Maria Whitehead, excelled at the recent IoD (Institute of Directors) awards

Maria with her husband Mark was overawed at the Northwest Institute of Directors awards when recognised for their contribution to the local community and region.

The Hawkshead Relish Company, an artisan producer of award winning preserves based in the Lake District, was the only food producing company among the other prominent business finalists.

Whilst also, a finalist in the category of Cumbria Director of the Year, Maria was especially delighted to take the Akroyd Award, presented by Brian Colquhoun, regional director of the Yorkshire Bank.

Maria thanked the IoD for the prestigious award which recognised her excellence in leadership. She said, “As many of you may or may not know I run the company together with my husband Mark, yesterday was our 26th Wedding Anniversary and so together we work as a team both at work and at home. We are fortunate to have a loyal and dedicated team and so I am delighted to accept this award on behalf of Mark and the whole team at Hawkshead Relish.”

The prestigious event held at the Manchester Hilton Hotel was hosted by BBC News presenter Nicholas Owen. The ceremony recognises the success of influential North West based businesses. Ann Jordan, chair of IOD North West said, “Tonight we mark the success of several directors from the North West region who have excelled in driving their companies to a level that makes them stand out from the crowd. The celebration of achievement is very inspirational to all of us who are directors and to win any award is an outstanding achievement.”
