  • Four days in and Purple Love Week is already causing a stir in the independent retail world.

The event, which began on Saturday, aims to promote all that is great about shopping in local stores. With tastings and events taking place nationwide, the campaign is already increasing sales and giving shop owners a morale boost during this notoriously quite time of year.

Paula Waugh, owner of Toast by the Coast, a cafe and delicatessen in Shoreham, is pleased to be taking part in the event. She says, “West Sussex is lucky to have an abundance of good-quality local suppliers. This event will give our customers an opportunity to sample some wonderful local produce and have some fun at the same time.”

Lindley’s cafe in Lindley, Huddersfield is also getting into the spirit of things. Comments owner, Tracy Capener, “Our aim is to encourage people to come out and enjoy seven days of loving great food with us. We’ll have lots of free tastings and food offers and we hope that lots of our friends and new people will come and find out more.”

Organised by Speciality Food Magazine and Olives Et Al, the week-long campaign will run until 16th February. Comments Speciality Food editor, Nicola Mallett, “It is fantastic that so many retailers are taking part in this nationwide event. With the current concerns about the state of the economy, the industry needs campaigns like this to put the spark back into retailing. We at Speciality Food wish all those retailers involved the best of luck with their tastings and promotions. Hopefully the money will be rolling in.”
