  • A new line of homemade, pre-prepared main meals at a farm shop in North Wales has scooped a total of 17 awards at this year's North Wales Awards for Innovation and Excellence in Meat Products.

Swan’s Farm Shop in Treuddyn, North Wales, was recognised for its diversity and quality with three gold awards, 13 silver awards and a bronze medal at the event earlier this month.

Judges applauded the Mediterranean lamb, sweet chilli pork, Cantonese style beef, traditional lamburger and a selection of sausages and pies.

All the meals offered in the shop are free from additives and preservatives and the beef is reared on the farm by owners, Gail and Clive Swan.

The couple, who set up the shop in 2003, are dedicated to offering only locally sourced food – a philosophy they have maintained in the face of the recession.

Having recently refitted the shop, the focus is now on developing the range of original recipes with an emphasis on value for money.

The North Wales Awards for Innovation and Excellence in Meat Products are organised annually by Hybu Cig Cymru (HCC). This year 34 butchers entered and the judges awarded a total of 168 gold, 74 silver and 20 bronze awards.

“This competition was set up to help butchers improve the quality of the products they sell to customers, helping them strengthen their business,” says Graham Titchener, marketing executive at HCC. “We’ve had some fantastic entries this year and those that entered can be proud of what they’ve achieved,” he adds.
