It beat 910 other entries to claim the top spot.

The entries were narrowed down to 60 gold medal winners, of which 20 received awards from the panel of five cheese experts.

The cheese has a thin, white rind which encases a pale yellow and soft interior with an earthy aroma.

The best English cheese was Stilhians Special, made by Lynher Dairies Cheese Co, in Cornwall. Mull of Kintyre’s mature Cheddar was voted the best Scottish cheese, while Cashel Blue, made by Cashel Cheese, based in Co Tipperary, took home the trophy for best Irish cheese.

It is the second time Tunworth has won the Supreme Champion award, and Hampshire Cheese also won the Best Newcomer award for its new creation Winslade.
