The Spain Food Nation Summit was first launched in 2023 with the creation of two Advisory Councils for Spanish Foods and Wines respectively, and the event has been beefed up for its second outing on 9th September, to offer a deeper dive into the key issues, themes and stories around UK-Spanish trade.
Promotional body Foods & Wine from Spain has continued the initiative for a second year with the aim of improving engagement with one of Spain’s most important export markets and boosting promotional activity.
The event offers a unique opportunity to network with key suppliers, buyers, journalists and chefs from the UK and Spanish wine, fresh produce and gourmet products sectors.
This year’s summit will feature three roundtable discussions with members of the Advisory Councils, moderated by Charlotte Smith-Jarvis, digital editor of Speciality Food Magazine, Andrew Catchpole, editor of leading wine industry magazine Harpers Wine & Spirit; and Mike Knowles, managing director of Market Intelligence, publisher of Fresh Produce Journal and Eurofruit magazines.
The Councils will discuss how to develop UK-Spanish relations and explore the potential for further market growth, as well as focusing on telling the story of Spanish wines.
During the event John Valentine of RED Communications will present a summary of the conclusions and recommendations from the two Advisory Councils that he moderated earlier this year, while John Giles of Promar International will outline two reports on the positioning of Spanish cheese and fresh produce in the UK.
The Economic and Commercial as well as the Agriculture, Fisheries and Food sections of the Spanish Embassy in London will also detail Spain’s performance in the UK market. The Spanish Minister of Agriculture will be attending and will close the event.
Furthermore, event sponsors will offer attendees a number of unique tasting opportunities, including:
- Sampling of foods and wines from Spanish brands in the UK, which will be promoted in a separate space alongside the conference.
- Continuing the promotion of quality DO Cava with a Cava Bar showcasing eight ‘Cavas de Guarda Superior’ wines and with sommeliers on hand to answer questions. This follows on from a Masterclass and Cava Bar organised during a Wines from Spain Annual Tasting in May.
- Offering an exclusive opportunity to learn about the unique qualities of ASICI Ibérico Ham and to learn about the “Awaken your Ibérico Senses” campaign, which is run by the Ibérico Ham trade body ASICI. Guests will hear about Ibérico products and have the chance to sample them.
