Farm shop launches delivery service for locals

Balgove Larder has expanded its delivery offerings to help members of the local community less familiar with online shopping get essential food and drink supplies.

The St Andrews-based farm shop has an online shop and UK-wide delivery and has now added a free telephone home delivery system for local customers with limited or no access to the internet. Items available to order via phone include ready meals, fresh fruit and vegetables and meat prepared by the in-house butchery.

Will Docker, founder of Balgove Larder, says, “We have been delivering orders locally, on the same day if ordered before 12pm and next day if ordered after 12pm and we have been met with amazement by many of our customers who had been waiting weeks for supermarket deliveries to come.  We’re so grateful for every order and the team for being so amazing and loyal. This time will pass, and we will have learnt so much from it.”

He adds that a positive to come from the current situation has been the resourcefulness from suppliers and the resurgence in the benefits of buying local. “We have found that keeping up with demand has not been onerous at all; we have increased our supplies from the farm and neighbouring farms. When the fields are full of cattle, sheep, pigs and an ever increasing quantity and variety of vegetables and fruit we are well placed to keep up with demand. In turn what we cannot source from the farm is made locally – be it bread and eggs or dairy; all our milk, butter, yogurt and the majority of our cheese is Scottish, so it’s really not hard to eat well with all of this on your doorstep. We have seen good resourcefulness from our suppliers – supplies of flour ran out quickly, so we asked one of our bakers to bag up their flours and yeast to ensure we could keep supplies going and this has worked really well.”
