£2.5m Boost for Welsh Food and Drink Announced

The announcement was made at IFE, where 36 Welsh food and drink companies have been aiming to attract new partners and customers, and build on existing business.

The investment, which will further enhance the country’s increasing food export market, will also enable Wales to enjoy a strong presence at key UK and international food events.

Rebecca Evans said, “In Wales we have a remarkable range of highly innovative food and drink producers, who are making their mark internationally, and many are globally-recognised brands renowned for their high quality. Today’s funding announcement underlines the importance of the sector to the Welsh economy and demonstrates our continued support.

“In our Action Plan, we have set out aspirational targets, but by working together in partnership with the industry, we are confident we can meet and exceed them. The establishment of an industry-led Food and Drink Board will provide a clear direction and focus for the sector and will allow us to identify key areas for development.”

Rebecca Evans also announced was the launch of a new industry-focused website. “Our Food and Drink Wales identity is very important to us and the new website will allow us to develop it further, as well as it being a source of information and support for the industry, not only in Wales, but across the UK and internationally.

“It will assist us in showcasing success stories, of which there are many, in the hope that they will inspire others to become a part of a growing and thriving sector.”

The new website will be www.gov.wales/foodanddrinkwales
