  • The challenge has been set, with butchers and food producers from across the West Midland vying for the accolade of tastiest sausage.

The West Midlands Tastiest Sausage Competition – organised by Heart of England fine foods (HEFF) and sponsored by Aga Raeburn and Lucas Ingredients – has run since 2001 and once again coincides with Farmhouse Breakfast Week (20th - 26th January 2008).

Two categories are up for grabs – the West Midlands’ Tastiest Breakfast Sausage Award for a mildly spiced sausage suitable for use in a traditional English breakfast, and the West Midlands’ Tastiest Speciality Sausage award for sausages with additional flavours.

Entrants can submit a product for both categories if they wish and entry is free.

This year’s bangers will be judged at a variety of county ‘sizzle-offs’ during January. The winner in each category will go forward to the Grand Final at the AGA Shop at the Mailbox, Birmingham, from 10am on Thursday 24th January.

Neal Harris of HEFF commented, “Over the last seven years, competition for the prestigious title of the West Midlands Tastiest Sausage has got hotter and we anticipate record entries this year.

“The range of recipes and ingredients never fails to impress with entrants looking for a new twist on this old British food favourite – and to prove their banger really is the best.”
