  • The chance to taste and buy a multitude of tempting Mid Wales morsels will provide visitors with an extra reason to visit Wales in April 2008.

Organisers have just announced that a new, mouth-watering festival of food and drink from Powys and its bordering counties will be held alongside Wonderwool, the popular showcase of Welsh wool and natural fibres, over the weekend of 26th and 27th April at the Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells, Powys, Wales.

Sally Shiels of Glasu, the Powys LEADER+ rural development programme, said, “The fare on offer will of course include locally produced lamb and mutton, but there will also be the opportunity to savour the other flavours of Mid Wales. This fantastic foodie event, Mid Wales Mouthful, sets out to celebrate the wonderful diversity of food and drink produced throughout the region. There will be more than 50 stalls featuring artisan and speciality food, and including producers we have supported as part of our New Harvest project, such as Elan Valley Mutton Company and Caroline’s Real Bread Company.”

Alongside workshops, tastings and talks, there will be cookery demonstrations both by celebrity chefs and by those who work locally. These include Peter James MBE, chef and owner of Drovers Rest Restaurant in Llanwrtyd Wells and Nick Davies, of Cambrian Training who is a senior member of the Welsh National Culinary team and food columnist for the Western Mail.
Activities and attractions for children will include a bike-powered smoothie maker and there will be Ready Steady Powys cookery competitions using food from the exhibitors and involving YFC groups from Brecnockshire, Radnorshire and Montgomeryshire.
