Final Call For Farm Shop Butchers

09 May 2011, 17:30 PM
  • For those farm shop owners looking to highlight their butchery skills at a national show, it is time to apply for the annual EBLEX competition

Farm shop butchers can once again showcase their talents at Beef Expo thanks to an initiative, known as The National Farm Shop Butchery Competition, which is open to all English farm shops selling English beef.

The competition challenges contestants to create an innovative and attractive range of eight different products from one boneless topside and one boneless chuck primal (including blade and feather) of beef.

EBLEX direct selling programme manager, Michael Richardson says the competition is designed to showcase the best of English beef and butchery talent.

“Increasing numbers of farm shops are introducing fresh meat counters. This competition is designed to encourage high standards of butchery and presentation in these outlets,” he said.

“The ability to display quality beef in an appealing and eye-catching manner is key to increasing sales volume and value, and also making the best of every cut.”

Beef Expo 2011, organised by the National Beef Association, takes place at Newark Showground on Thursday 26 May.

Entries for the National Farm Shop Butchery Competition close on 13th May 2011 and entry forms are available by emailing diane.northrop@eblex.ahdb.org.uk or calling Diane on 01480 482981.
