  • Today 50% less people sit down regularly for Sunday lunch, a decrease of six million people since 1940

Research conducted by the Future Foundation and the Institute for Social and Economic Research, suggests that in the UK, in over just two generations, the number of adults enjoying Sunday lunch together at home has dropped by more than half, from 12.7 million in 1961 to just 6.2 million today.

A new campaign called ‘Bring Back Sundays’ campaign has therefore been launched with the aim of getting people to eat healthy, locally grown and seasonal food, and to promote core family and traditional values.

“Today 50% less people sit down regularly for Sunday lunch, a decrease of six million people since 1940,” says Rick Sanderson, commercial manager of From My Farm.

“Increasingly we have a culture of microwave dinners eaten in bedrooms and meals on the run, which we’d like to help reverse with our Bring Back Sundays campaign. We’d like to get more people sitting down for a meal together on a Sunday because we believe eating together is an important part of family life that not only reinforces family values but also helps encourage healthy eating.”
