Food & Drink Wales Heads to NYC

The 10 businesses on display at the show all produce foods which are unique to Wales, including hand-harvested salt crystals, single malt Welsh whisky, and award-winning water from a 800 year old natural spring. The show will also see the launch of a cheese which has been created to celebrate this year’s Caerphilli Food Festival.

Although small in size, Wales plays a big part in the retail market in Europe and has grown by £310 million (6.4 per cent) between 2011-2012. 170,000 of its population of 3 million are employed in the food and drink sector, making it the single largest employer in the country – this growth is supported by the Welsh government, which will available to speak to at stands 3809-3827.

Alun Davies, minister for natural resources and food said, “Food is a priority for the Welsh Government and I am determined to support the industry to develop and move in positive new directions, to embrace new technology and advancements in research and development and to put Wales at the forefront of production. We are working to grow output from the food industry by 30% so that it hits £7 billion by 2020 and this is the main aim of our ‘Action Plan for the Food and Drink industry 2014-2020’ which I will launch in June.

“Here in Wales we are very proud of our distinctive and unique food offer. I believe this is something that should be celebrated and shared and I hope that consumers in America will enjoy these fine, Welsh products with the same enthusiasm as we do.”
