PGI Status in the Offing for Traditional Ayrshire Dunlop

Following being opened in November 2014, the consultation will continue for six months and has already been approved by Defra and the European Commission. It is currently in the public consultation stage.

Although Dunlop Dairy is currently the only producer of Traditional Ayrshire Dunlop, if awarded the PGI status will allow for other dairies to produce the cheese so long as they do so within a designated area and using specific techniques.

Ann Dorward of Dunlop Dairy said, “This will be a boon for the area, and it’s a pleasure to produce a cheese which can boast such an impressive history and story.”
