Pork Burger Takes Top Prize at Midlands Show

The burger is made by Robin Maycock Family Butchers, in Holloway, which is one of the few butchers to have its own abattoir.

It beat 113 other entries at the Newark Showground, which were all judged on appearance, size, colour, ease of cutting, texture, taste and smell.

Jonathan Maycock said, “I can’t believe our burger was judged the best pork product in the East Midlands. We know it is a great recipe, but to stand out against so many excellent entries is really quite fantastic!

“It sells really well in the summer, especially at food fairs, but its popularity doesn’t wane in winter either, which is why we took it along with four other products for evaluation. As the entry that needed the least preparation, we really weren’t expecting it to do so well. Entering competitions and evaluation events is a tradition started by our parents and one which we try to continue – although we’d like to do more of them, particularly when we do so well!”
