6 Important Trendspotting Tips

• Things change quickly in the food industry. Don’t over-order and keep a close eye on shelf life.

• Make sure you’re aware of the BBC’s Great British Bake Off schedule. Interest in home-baking surges when the adverts for the Autumn season start in July. There’s invariably another short series of Celebrity or Comic Relief Bake Off in the spring.

• Know your customers. It doesn’t matter if cappuccino popcorn is in if they prefer salt ‘n’ vinegar crisps.

• If the product, e..g cold brew coffee or kefir is new, make it clear what it is, how to use it and what the benefits are. Arrange demos and tastings.

• Support your DIY food kits with in-store events and loyalty schemes. How about a monthly home brew club as advertised by trendy London beer shop webroughtbeer.co.uk

• Trust your judgement. Does it taste good?
