10 of the best farm shops in Hampshire

Hampshire is known for its beautiful countryside and rich history: from the New Forest, Test Valley and South Downs to Winchester Cathedral and Jane Austen.

Yet the county has a diverse array of towns and cities, incorporating quaint villages alongside the bustling seaside cities of Southampton and Portsmouth, and even the Isle of Wight.

With a larder of incredible homegrown food and drink, from Isle of Wight Tomatoes to Black Chalk Wine to Tunworth Cheese, as well as numerous farms producing meat and dairy with local provenance, a visit to any of the farm shops listed below will see your basket heaving with brilliant new products to try.

Newlyns Farm Shop

Location: North Warnborough, Hook
Shop hours: Mon-Thurs, 8am-5pm; Fri, 8am-6pm; Sat, 8am-4pm; Sun, 9am-3pm

The heart of the Newlyns Farm Shop experience is all about making your shopping trip the very best it can be. The farm shop is run by the Janaway family, now on its fourth generation, who operate a 500-acre traditional mixed farm as well as the Farm Café and highly regarded on-site Cookery School.

“We have a modern butchery run by a team of experts with over 100 years of experience between them and they prepare all the meat from the farm on site,” says Abby Janaway, partner.

The butchery has always been at the centre of the business, with beef from the farm’s own grass-fed cows, as well as Hampshire Down lambs and Berkshire pigs. The meat is all hung and butchered by the team, with the beef given a minimum of 21 days to mature for optimum flavour and tenderness.

“You will also find a specialist fishmonger and dedicated Cheese Room, alongside our deli counter which showcases the best of Newlyns’ kitchen with our famous pies, pasties, scotch eggs, sausage rolls, quiches, salads, cooked meats,” Abby continues. The kitchen team showcases the farm’s delicious food in the Farm Café, too. “Newlyns breakfasts are renowned far and wide,” Abby says.

Westlands Farm Shop

Location: Winchester High Street and Pricketts Hill, Southampton
Shop hours: Mon-Sat, 8am-6pm; Sun, 9am-4pm

Westlands Farm Shop is a stunning example of how farmers can work together to prosper. “Our family has been farming since the 1970s and been on the land at Westlands Farm since 1988,” begins Graham Collett of Westlands Farm Shop. “In 2001, we brought together a community of local producers with the creation of Westlands Farm Shop in Wickham. Over the last 25 years, we’ve championed diversification, and Westlands Farm Shop is a perfect example of how diversification can strengthen farms, protect rural livelihoods, and give farmers more control over how their food is sold and valued,” Graham tells Speciality Food.

As an example, Graham points to the shop’s collaboration with local honey producer Strides Honey, which provides the farm with hives of honey bees to pollinate their fruit plants. “The makers at Strides then harvest this into Strides Westland Honey, which is sold in our farm shop.”

Much has changed since the shop first opened its doors in 2001 – including bringing the best of the farm straight into the heart of Winchester. “Bringing rural produce to the high street helps bridge the gap between countryside and city, making local food accessible to more people,” Graham says.

The family-run shop continues to specialise in homegrown produce (the strawberries and raspberries grown on their farm in Wickham are best-sellers), in addition to a traditional butchery on site that offers grass-fed beef and lamb reared on the farm. The shop’s homemade sausages and lamb and beef joints, which are raised to high-welfare standards, are also favourites among customers.

“We’re still rooted in farming, still passionate about British produce, and still committed to supporting our local agricultural community,” Graham says.

The Farmer’s Butcher Farm Shop

Location: Swallowfields Farm, New Forest
Shop hours: Tues-Fri, 9am-5pm; Sat 9am-4pm; Sun-Mon, Closed

The Farmer’s Butcher Farm Shop is a family-run, independent butchers and farm shop specialising in promoting local produce and supporting farmers in the area. Opened by Mike and Sarah Alexander seven years ago, the shop is based at Swallowfields Farm in the New Forest, near Bramshaw. Sarah tells Speciality Food the pair try to buy directly from local farmers and producers wherever possible.

The Farmer’s Butcher has evolved significantly over the years. When Mike and Sarah first took over the operation it was a mainly a catering butchery. Now, it’s become a well-established retail farm shop. But fabulous local produce remains its USP.

With Mike’s experience in butchery (he went into the trade straight from school) and farm shop management (he had stints running The Dairy Barn Farm Shop near Stockbridge and The Ginger Piggery in Boyton, Wiltshire) and Sarah’s experience spanning retail, food and more, the two are well placed to share their knowledge and experience and create a welcoming atmosphere for their customers.

But what’s flying off their shelves? Unsurprisingly, it’s their own carefully butchered meat. “Our best-selling products are local beef (steaks) and butchers’ handmade sausages, and our Great Taste Award-winning Dry Cured Bacon,” Sarah says.

Longstock Park Farm Shop

Location: Stockbridge
Shop hours: Mon-Sat, 9am-5.30pm; Sun, 10am-4pm

This destination farm shop, which is part of the John Lewis Partnership and Waitrose, holds a unique position in the UK grocery landscape as the only supermarket-owned farm shop, and part of the only UK supermarket-owned farm. “Nestled in the Hampshire countryside, the Longstock Park Farm Shop on the Leckford Estate offers a distinctive retail experience,” begins the Longstock Park Farm Shop Team.

The Leckford Estate spans 2,800 acres and serves as Waitrose’s “centre of excellence for regenerative farming,” the team says. “Visitors to the farm shop can buy regeneratively grown produce, such as rapeseed oil, flour, honey, cider, and sparkling wine, all produced on the farm just a couple of miles away.”

The Leckford Estate Brut is a highlight. “Made with grapes grown on the Waitrose & Partners vineyard on the Leckford Estate and crafted at the award-winning Ridgeview estate, this blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier is bottle-fermented and aged to the highest standards,” the team says.

In addition to their homegrown products, the farm shops sells a curated selection from local producers, such as Isle of Wight Tomatoes, River Test Distillery, Lyburn Cheesemakers and Chalk Stream.

Garsons Titchfield

Location: Titchfield (also Esher, Surrey)
Shop hours: Mon-Sat, 9am-5.30pm; Sun, 10.30am-4.30pm

Dating back to 1871, Garsons Farm began in Surrey as a mixed farm that soon started specialising in vegetables, which were sold to none other than London’s Borough Market. Following a century of successful crop production, the Thompson family opened the Esher farm shop in the 1970s as supermarkets began looking to cheap food from abroad.

The Titchfield location was opened in 1999 by the family’s fourth generation, and both shops are currently managed by fifth-generation Thompsons. Inside is an extensive range of products, from locally sourced foods, freshly baked cakes and confectionery to snacks and world foods.

Farm shop supervisor Caitlin Dally says the brand has a strong focus on supporting producers across Hampshire. “The shop proudly showcases a wide selection of local produce, helping independent businesses grow,” she says.

“Customers can also discover an ever-changing selection of unique and hard-to-find products, ensuring there is always something new to explore with every visit,” Caitlin continues. “The farm shop’s commitment to quality, variety and local partnerships has made it a popular destination for shoppers seeking both familiar favourites and exciting new flavours.”

This year, the shop has seen strong sales of locally produced goods. “Freshly baked Belgian Buns and Lardy Cakes from Hampshire bakery Stainers is among the shop’s top five best-selling products, reflecting the continued demand for traditional, locally made treats,” Caitlin says.

“Another standout performer is Goodens Gold, brewed by the local Flower Pots Brewery. The beer has proved particularly popular with customers, further highlighting the growing appetite for quality produce from independent Hampshire businesses.”

Hockey’s Farm Shop

Location: South Gorley, Hampshire
Shop hours: Mon-Sun, 9am-5pm

Hockey’s Farm Shop is all about bringing the local community together,” Jonathan Stainton-Burrell, owner and director, tells Speciality Food. Originally founded by Philip Hockey in the 1980s, in 2013, Jonathan and Laura took the leap and bought the farm, with grand plans to evolve the simple butchery shop into a farm shop destination.

“We pride ourselves on offering a genuine New Forest experience, where customers can chat with our expert butchers, enjoy the atmosphere in our Farmyard Café, or browse our shop for the best local produce.”

And they’re doing good work, having won the 2025 New Forest Business of the Year award. “We aim to ensure every visitor leaves with a smile and a great product,” Jonathan says.

For many customers, that means picking up a cut of award-winning, homegrown British Lop pork. Since starting with a small herd in 2014, Hockey’s now specialises in rare breed British Lop pigs raised on the farm.

Now on its fourth generation of family farmers, Hockey’s continues to go from strength to strength.

Cobbs Farm Shop

Location: Headbourne Worthy, Winchester
Shop hours: Mon-Fri, 9am-6pm; Sat, 9am-5pm; Sun, 10am-4pm

With farm shops across Hampshire, Berkshire and Warwickshire, the Cobbs Farm Shop brand is well established in the local area and beyond. The Hampshire shop is located just outside of Winchester in the village of Headbourney Worthy. “Cobbs at Winchester has been part of the local community for over 30 years, originally starting life as a simple watercress shed. Whilst we’ve grown a lot since then, the heart of what we do has never really changed, providing customers with quality food, great provenance and friendly service,” says Katie Westwood, marketing manager.

“I think we’ve become somewhere that people genuinely build into their everyday lives,” she continues. “We have regular customers popping in daily for a loaf of bread, a slice of cheese, a sausage roll, a meal deal, meat for dinner or just a coffee, alongside families who visit at the weekend for breakfast or lunch before browsing the farm shop for a few treats to take home.”

Indeed, the shop is known for its quality food offering, including local, seasonal, and British produce sourced from local growers whenever possible. Seasonal produce is always incredibly popular, Katie says. “Whenever we build large seasonal displays, whether it’s British asparagus with Hollandaise sauce in the spring or British strawberries with meringues in the summer, those products quickly become our best sellers. They’re colourful, fresh and really celebrate what’s in season, making them hard to walk past without adding something to the basket.”

But while Cobbs is a daily or weekly stop for many, it’s also a true farm shop destination. “What makes us different is that we’re much more than just a farm shop. Alongside our café, traditional butchery, deli, florist and plant centre, we also champion local and British producers wherever possible, so customers know they’re buying fresh, seasonal food with a story behind it. They enjoy discovering products they simply wouldn’t find in a supermarket, whether that’s artisan cheeses, local produce, English sparkling wine or something new from one of our independent suppliers.

The butchery is one of the main reasons people visit, Katie says. “Customers really value being able to speak directly to knowledgeable butchers, get cooking advice and buy quality, locally sourced meat they know they can trust.” In addition to the hugely popular butchery,“the florist and plant centre really add to the overall experience, making us somewhere people can enjoy spending time rather than just ticking off their shopping list,” Katie adds.

Best-selling products are typically homemade. “Our sausage rolls and quiches have been customer favourites for years, and this year our homemade brownies have been flying off the shelves too.

“Our butcher’s 3 for £15 range is another real customer favourite,” Katie continues. “It includes products such as our homemade burgers, sausages, marinated chicken breasts and other easy midweek meal options. It’s great value and makes it really easy for customers to pick up a few meals in one go, especially during BBQ season.”

Its lamb comes from its flock of Texels, Poll Dorsets and North Country Mules and mutton from Herdwick breed.

With an expert butchery team in place, customers can get all the help and advice they need on the best cuts of meat.
