An industry survey on the speciality food and drink market revealed that 64% of independent retailers, buyers and caterers visit trade fairs to seek out new artisan food and drink produce, so make sure you aren’t missing out by registering for your ticket to Speciality & Fine Food Fair 2018.
Hosted at Olympia London from 2 – 4 September 2018, the Fair is time well spent out of the office or back of house, giving you the opportunity to see, touch and taste the new and exciting products that are launching in the UK. With more than 700 producers at the event, serving both the retail and hospitality channels, it can be daunting to know where to start, so we’ve highlighted some of the key product launches to check out at the Fair, grouped by an overarching theme.
From alcohol-free beverages and vegan delights to revolutionary snacks and interesting new flavour combinations, there really is something for everyone. Here is a snapshot of some of the key launches to look out for this September from producers.
The increasing emphasis on sustainability and environmentally-friendly products is a trend that covers all sectors of speciality food and drink, and beyond. Consumers will soon expect to see shelves stocked with brands that have these credentials so now is the time for retailers to be on the front foot in providing this.
Visitors will be able to taste innovative launches within this trend, such as from Sea Chips (stand 2661), which will be showcasing the UK’s first handcrafted salmon skin crisps, which make use of the often wasted but nutrient-dense salmon skin, in turn offering a solution to part of Britain’s seafood waste problem.
Bites We Love (stand 1636f) is another brand for which waste reduction is part of its ethos. The brand produces delicious and nutritious mixes of nuts, seeds and dried fruit that come in portion-size for convenience on-the-go and to prevent food waste; the packaging is made from bio-plastic for added eco-friendly benefit.
Healthy treats with a twist:
Healthy snacking is the trend that keeps on growing and 2019 will see the most innovative producers pushing the boundary beyond sugar-free alternatives and protein bars.
Located in the Discovery Zone, The Veggie Plot (stand 3092) will be sampling its new-to-the-UK vegetable yoghurts, unleashing a trend forecasted to replace traditional sweet-flavoured yoghurts with the likes of cucumber and dill, beetroot with cumin and avocado and lime juice varieties.
Dadima’s (stand 3069) will be launching its new high-energy, high-fibre Ayurvedic snack called Panjiri, which is based on a recipe passed down through the generations from the founder’s grandmother. It is a snack that has been considered a superfood in India for years but is new to the UK market, containing essentials fats and anti-inflammatory ingredients, amongst many other health benefits.
Global producers are set to bring a wave of lesser-known ingredients to the Fair, prompting visitors to deliver new experiences to their foodie customers. Joe and Avrels (stand 3261), a premium African delicatessen, will showcase its delicious and enticing sweet juices, packed full of African fruit and vegetables such as ‘safou’ – an African savage plum from the Congo.
The unique tastes of Africa can be found elsewhere in the Discovery Zone, with producer Drink Baotic (stand 2870) and its use of the exotic baobab fruit, which recently gained trend-worthy status as a new superfood thanks to its vitamin-packed credentials – the ingredient is ideal for restaurateurs and café owners looking for new flavour combinations in dishes.
Elsewhere at the Fair, The Artisan Olive Oil Company (stand 1812) is launching its Moulins Mahjoub range of Tunisian speciality gourmet sauces; a rare M’hamsa sauce for use on cous cous and a traditional Shak-shuka sauce that would work well in fine food delis and department stores, offering a new Southern Mediterranean taste to the UK market. The sauces are prepared only during July and August, which is peak season for getting the best-tasting tomatoes, plus everything is farmed using traditional methods with no artificial processes.

Beyond these exciting producers with new launches, there’s so much more to see and experience at the Fair.
